Road Bikes Buyers Guide

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Do you like the road cycling? Want to buy a new road bike? Along this article you will find lots of information on how to choose your road bike that more fits with your needs. Probably, the first and most important question is how much do you want to spend as well as how much cycling will you do? The answer to the first question is a difficult one, Remember that you get what you pay for. Many cyclists can not afford to spend much on their bicycles. It depends on the level; keep reading and get the perfect cycle for your level.

Bicycles For Low Level Riders

If you go to the larger sports shops or bike stores they will have complete bicycles for sale, usually an alloy frame with Shimano Tiagra or Campagnolo Mirage or a mixture of not much expensive components, These bikes will be built to a price, will ride quite well, wont be very light and is a good point to start. To get something better, you might start with a good alloy frame and if you can afford it, carbon forks, then with what money you have left chose your group-set of either Campagnolo or Shimano, and then you can pick your handlebars, saddle, wheel rims and tires, this is very funny, however if you are working to a budget, it can be tricky.

Bicycles For Touring And Possibly Racing Mid Level Riders

You can buy a complete bike in this category, in the bikes store, sports shop or even in the specialist magazines or on the Internet. It is more fun to choose the components for your frame and how much you want to spend. At this level you would probably be looking at Campagnolo Centaur or probably Shimano 105 road bike parts and you could possibly buy some built up wheels from Mavic, Shimano or Campagnolo. But you should think firs on the frame, there are many frames out there to choose from, get on the web and find what you want, it will probably be alloy again, with carbon forks. Alloy seat pin, handlebars and stem and a comfortable saddle.

Bike For Racing And Pleasure Designed For Top Level Riders

At this range of bikes it gets more difficult. Probably your components would be Shimano Ultegra or Campagnolo Chorus, unless you can afford the top components of both manufacturers. Wheels will be probably Shimano, Mavic or Campagnolo, deep carbon rims look fantastic and have a smooth ride, but will probably be too expensive, best if you stick to alloy rims for high pressure tires as tubulars, even though they ride wonderfully, will be expensive and a lot of trouble. Handle bars, stem and seat pin could be alloy or carbon, if you have the money. The frame is the heart of your bike and you will want a good one, at this price range alloy is going to be the first choice with carbon forks and possibly a carbon rear triangle. If you look around you might manage to find an all carbon frame at this price, Giant make a very well priced carbon frame in a compact, sloping design, there are others but you will have to spend a lot more money.

Pro Bikes For Pro Level Riders.

When’re looking at a lot of money here if you want to buy a professional road bike. The frame will be all carbon or titanium with carbon forks and maybe a carbon rear triangle or alloy main tubes with carbon front or rear end. The nicest ones on the market at the moment, in my opinion, are Colnago, De Rosa, Pinarello, Battaglin, Time, Scott, Cervelo and many more, all are available in different colours, geometries and sizes, check out there web sites for information and try to make your choice, it’s a difficult job. This is a professional road bike so it will have to have the best components, Shimano Dura.Ace or Campagnolo Record are your only choice at this level. Same with the wheels, Dura-Ace or Campagnolo Bora, these can be for high pressure clincher tires or tubulars, tubulars are more trouble but do ride well, but clincher tires are very nearly as nice and much more practical. Handle bars, stem and seat pin will be carbon and your saddle will have a carbon base with a leather cover and sometimes with gel for a little extra comfort.

The Best Bicycle You Can Afford.

That’s true “You do only get what you pay for, so get the best bike you can afford”. A good idea might be look around the magazines and the internet manufacturers’ sites and don’t forget your local bike shop until you get that little treasure, but be careful not to make your partner too jealous!

Andrew Caxton runs a cycling site which can be found at http://www.bike-cycling-reviews.com. Withing his website he publish reviews and comparisons on heart rate monitors and bike accessories

Attaining Business Cover Is Extremely Essential to the Triumph of Your Organisation

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

There is no refuting the fact that the triumph of a business in the end is attributed to the work done by the staff, however one catastrophe can easily wipe out all your hard work & shrink the revenue to dust. So, to evade such an example, you are recommended to insure your business, whether it is a small firm or a big corporation. Yet, please consider that smaller organisations are somewhat more probable to require business insurance protection in today’s busy world. This is mainly as smaller business owners will have placed their total lives & pay into the firm.

A few of the items commonly protected by most business insurance covers comprise of: natural catastrophes, tornadoes, mechanism or equipment crash that closes the company, loss of money attributed to employee mistake & lawsuits brought against the firm. Don’t fret; find a public liability insurance business today.

There are many insurance companies, which have covers that include both protection for all important property and liability risks in one package. You can also get hold of a separate policy covers. Such cover is nicknamed as a business owners’ policy (BOP). Large firms might obtain a business cover.

BOPs incorporate building insurance for buildings & kit belonging to the organisation. If there is any loss of profits because of disruption of operation and business because of tragedies like volcanoes, it can be insured under the Business Interruption Insurance.

There are policies, which protects the businesses legal duty for the damage it may cause to others. It is the consequence your company’s failure to do the business operations. It can as well be the actual injury or building damage caused as a result of malfunctioning items, faulty fittings & slip-ups in services offered.

Nevertheless, BOPs don’t cover against professional liability, vehicle cover, workers’ costs or health and disability insurance. Instead separate policies are essential for professional services, vehicles and employees. In general, floods, earthquakes & terrorist attacks are not protected in the business insurance. Please check before you purchase!

The History of Calendars

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas on January 7. Their “old new year” is a week later, on January 14. It is all Julius Caesar’s fault …

The Romans sometimes neglected to introduce an extra month every two years to amortize the difference between their lunar calendar and the natural solar year. Julius Caesar decreed that the year 46 BC should have 445 days (some historians implausibly say: 443 days) in order to bridge the yawning discrepancy that accumulated over the preceding seven centuries. It was aptly titled the “Year of Confusion”.

To “reset” the calendar, Julius Caesar affixed the New Year on January 1 (the day the Senate traditionally convened) and added a day or two to a few months.

He thus gave rise to the Julian Calendar, a latter day rendition of the Aristarchus calendar from 239 BC. After his assassination, the month of Quintilis was renamed Julius (July) in his honor.

The Julian calendar estimated the length of the natural solar year (the time it takes for the earth to make one orbit of the sun) to be 365 days and 6 hours. Every fourth year the extra six hours were collected and added as an extra day to the year, creating a leap year of 366 days.

But the calendar’s underlying estimate was off by 11 minutes and 14 seconds. It was longer than the natural solar year. The extra minutes accumulated to one whole day. By 325 AD, the Spring Equinox was arriving on March 21st on the Julian Calendar – instead of March 25.

The First Ecumenical Council met in Nicea in 325 and determined that the date to celebrate Pascha was on the first Sunday, after the first full moon, after the Spring Equinox on March 21st. In other words, it enshrined the Julian calendar’s aberration.

Thus, by 1582, the Spring Equinox was arriving on March 11. Half-hearted measures by Popes Paul III and Pius V failed to restore the essential correspondence between the calendar and the seasons.

Pope Gregory XIII decided – in his tenth year in office – to drop 3 leap years every 400 years by specifying that any year whose number ended with 00 must also be evenly divisible by 400 in order to have a 29-day February.

This would have the effect of bringing the Julian calendar closer to the natural length of the solar year – though an error of 26 seconds per year would still remain.

To calibrate the Julian calendar with the Gregorian one and to move the Spring Equinox back to March 21, 10 days were dropped from the civil calendar in October 1582. Thursday, October 4 was followed by Friday, October 15. People rioted in the streets throughout Europe, convinced that they have been robbed of 10 days.

But this was merely a convenient fiction. The Spring Equinox in the Gregorian calendar was, indeed, celebrated on March 21 in perpetuity. But, according to the Julian calendar, in the 17th century it arrived on March 11th, in the 18th century on March 10th, in the 19th century on March 9th, and in the 20th century on March 8th – 13 days earlier that even the erroneous date adopted by the Nicea Council.

The Gregorian calendar was controversial in Protestant countries. Britain and its colonies adopted it only in 1752. They had to drop 11 days from the civil calendar and move the official new year from March 25 to January 1. For centuries, dates followed by OS (“Old Style”) were according to the Julian calendar and dates followed by NS (“New Style”) according to the Gregorian one. Sweden adopted the Gregorian Calendar in 1753, Japan in 1873, Egypt in 1875, Eastern Europe between 1912 to 1919 and Turkey in 1927. In Russia it was decreed by the (bourgeois) revolutionaries that thirteen days would be omitted from the calendar, the day following January 31, 1918 becoming February 14, 1918.

It was Pope Pius X who, in 1910, changed the beginning of the ecclesiastical year from Christmas Day to January 1, effective from 1911 onwards.

All that time, the Christian Orthodox continued to observe the Julian calendar. In 1923, a Conference of Orthodox Churches in Constantinople reduced the number of leap years every 900 years and attained a discrepancy between the calendar and the natural solar year of merely 2.2 seconds per year.

According to this calendar, the Spring Equinox will regress by one day every 40,000 years.

They, too, had to drop 13 days to bring the Spring Equinox back to March 21st. Hence the gap between December 25 (Gregorian calendar) and January 7 (revised Julian-Orthodox calendar).

Pros and Cons for Xbox, PS2 and GameCube – Part II

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

When it comes to buying a home console, the most important aspect is the games offer on the market. After all, you are getting the Xbox, the GameCube or the PS2 for playing games, not for studying!

The games aspect can be interpreted in this manner: some customers are looking for a certain kind of games; others are not interested in the quality of the games, but in the quantity. Therefore, the games criterion varies from one individual to another.

Consequently, before buying an Xbox, a GameCube or a PS2, you first have to decide what kind of games you like, and buy the console system that is more suitable for your taste. You should always keep in mind that a console system may be extremely fast, may have online support and great controls, but doesn’t have the games you like playing; therefore the home console is not suitable for your needs. For instance, the Xbox has much more games than the GameCube, but not all of them are very good. So, the games quantity aspect is not always enough for deciding on a certain home console.

When it comes to talking about games, we have to mention the exclusive titles aspect, meaning the games that are available on a certain system. Each of the Xbox, the GameCube or the PS2 has its own offer of exclusive titles. For instance, Nintendo’s GameCube has games based on ‘traditional’ characters like Mario, Starfox, Wario, Pokemon, Metroid or Zelda. Although the GameCube is lately trying to escape its kids-only image, this home console is the most appropriate if you are buying it for your child. On the other hand, the PS2 is most famous for its Grand Theft Auto series, which are more suitable for adult customers. The Xbox is well known for its exclusive titles Halo and Halo 2. The best thing about this system’s games is the feature that they can be played online with and against other Xbox owners. PS2 is also offering online capability, but it is not organized into a unified network. So if you are a fan of playing online, you should know that Xbox has the best system for this feature.

In the end, you are always the deciding factor. If you are looking for games to be played with friends at home, on the couch, then you are a PS2 or a GameCube kind of person. But if you enjoy gaming against others over the Internet, then you should choose the Xbox. Yet, don’t forget that the games aspect may be important, but it is not the only one to take into consideration when buying a home console. The third section of this article will discuss further aspects on choosing a home console.

Create a Conscious Love Relationship ?2

Create a Conscious Love Relationship ?2
Robert Elias Najemy
Part 2 of 3 part series

We continue here to discuss aspects of a mature relationship.

COMMUNICATION

a. Expressing needs and feelings rather than blame.

One of the main causes of misunderstandings, tension, bitterness, unhappiness and relationship failure is our inability to communicate effectively. We have been programmed to criticize, blame and intimidate rather than express our real needs and / or feelings of insecurity, fear, inadequacy or rejection, which is usually the reality behind our negativity.

We have learned to cover our weaknesses and put up a strong and often aggressive face. We can develop alternative means of communication in which we neither suppress our needs and values, nor do we hurt or demean the other.

b. Clarifying and communicating our needs before we unite our lives:

Whether we want to see it that way or not, marriage is a contract between two persons who promise certain things to each other. Unfortunately for many, this contract is simply a formality for the religion or the state.

However, two conscious persons wanting to enter into a relationship have everything to gain by sitting down together and drawing up their own contract, independent of what the church or state may stipulate. In this way, they will discover if they really have the same goals, values and perceptions about what their relationship means. They can express what they expect of each other. This will be an opportunity to discuss lifestyles and expectations more deeply, to see if they are really meant to unite their lives, or if it is perhaps better to remain friends.

Couples already married can renew their contract every few years, making adjustments when agreeable to both which represent their present relationship needs. These contracts will evolve as their needs evolve.

COMMON ACTIVITIES

A relationship needs to be kept fresh and alive. One way is for the partners to share various types of common activities. One basic common activity is bringing up children and everything that encompasses. Other possibilities might be attending classes, lectures or cultural events together, playing games, going for walks, working on some business or creative project together, singing, dancing, traveling or even reading together, and of course, expressing love to each other physically.

In these mind and body stimulating activities, we are brought into deeper contact and have new and interesting subjects about which to think and communicate. This is much preferable to limiting our time together to watching television.

On the other hand, we need to respect each other?s unique individuality and should not try to force the other to believe what we do, or pressure him or her into some activity in which he or she is not interested. However, we all have everything to gain by being open and experimental about life, allowing ourselves to try out new experiences and activities leading to mutual growth and enrichment.

KEEP LEARNING AND GROWING

The disharmony we experience in a relationship actually is a message that we have something to learn. We would do well to analyze what we need to learn and make the corresponding adjustments in our attitude toward life.

Learning and loving are the two reasons for which we have incarnated into these bodies. When we stop learning or loving, our life is less meaningful. The purpose of life is to evolve in our wisdom, love, inner peace, selflessness and creative abilities. Getting stuck and refusing to grow is the surest way to destroy the harmony in a relationship.

From a spiritual point of view, the other is our teacher. His or her behavior is exactly what we need at this stage of our lives to learn something about ourselves and free ourselves from some beliefs or behaviors that are keeping us back in our evolutionary process.

We will dedicate a significant part of this book toward clarifying what we need to learn from our partner?s behaviors that disturb us.

SPIRITUAL ACTIVITIES

As our spiritual growth process is the basic reason for our existence in the physical plane, it is logical that it will be an important part of any successful relationship. Spiritual activity is seriously missing from the lives of most families today.

Families could pray or chant together. They could read and discuss spiritual texts together. They could meditate in silence together. They could serve the less fortunate in society. Each home can vibrate with love and harmony.

I have unfortunately throughout the years witnessed zealous spiritual aspirants who perceive their spouses, children or parents as obstacles to their spiritual growth, believing that their spirituality is dependent upon their following seminars or meditating many hours. It is true that these activities can help, but they should never be reasons to lose our love for those who might consciously or subconsciously obstruct us.

Love and selflessness are always the highest forms of spirituality.

Parts 3 of this series will contain the following subjects:
Distinguish Between the Other and His Behavior.
See the Other as Your Teacher.
Keeping Promises
Unconditional Love
Reaching Out Beyond the Relationship
Develop Your Own Relationship with the Divine.

Eating well on a tight budget

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Just about everyone wants to eat better, but budgetary constraints sometimes make healthy eating a difficult goal. It is important, however, to buy the healthiest food you can afford, whether you are cooking only for yourself or for a growing family.

One fun and easy way to cook healthy food while still saving money is to grow your own herbs and spices. Unlike a vegetable garden, that can take up lots of space and involve a lot of work, a simple herb garden can be easily grown in a windowsill or similar small space. There are kits available for just a few dollars that contain the seeds, pots and other items needed to start an herb garden, or you can save even more money by buying the seeds and planters yourself.

Cooking with herbs and spices is a great way to enjoy healthy cooking on a budget. Spices and herbs are a great way to flavor dishes without the need for heavy sauces, butter or other high fat preparations. Growing your own herbs give the grower a great deal of control over those herbs. This is important, since many prepared herbs and spices contain large amounts of sodium.

Another excellent way to save money while still eating a healthy diet is to buy fresh fruits and vegetables when they are in season in your local area. Buying locally grown produce is often the best way to guarantee freshness and quality, and in season produce is generally less expensive since it does not need to be shipped hundreds or even thousands of miles.

Watching the sales at the local grocery stores is important to everyone, but it is particularly important to those who are trying to eat right on a limited budget. Using grocery store sales to stock up on such important staples as whole grain cereals, breads and whole wheat flour is a great way to make even the most limited food budget stretch a bit further.

Using coupons is another great way to make a food budget stretch. Cutting coupons is a great way to save money on products you already buy, as is signing up for various frequent buyer programs and other money savings opportunities.

In addition to manufacturers coupons, many grocery store chains offer customer loyalty cards which allow their customers to save money on products they buy regularly. These grocery store loyalty programs often print coupons for products customers have bought in the past, and they can be great ways to save significant amounts of money. Since most of these programs are free, there is really no downside to their use.

Stocking up on meats, seafood and poultry during store sales is another great way to save significant amounts of money. Buying a second hand chest freezer may be a good investment, particularly for those people with large families to feed. Having a large freezer space allows customers to take advantage of grocery store sales and stock up on chicken, beef, lamb, fish and pork when they are on sale.

Careful meal planning is another great way to save money while still providing healthy meals for yourself and your family. Planning meals well ahead of time allows you to take advantage of what is already in your freezer in order to create delicious, nutritious meals without spending any additional money.

One great thing about most fruits, vegetables and beans is their low cost. Another great feature of these staples is their high nutritional value. Combining these two important features is a great way to make your budget stretch while providing your family with nutritious, healthy foods.

For instance, why not make that expensive skirt steak go further by interspersing chunks of expensive beef with chunks of inexpensive pineapples or green peppers. Not only will you get twice as much food for your money, but you will enjoy a healthier meal as well.

No matter what strategies you choose to make your food budget stretch when cooking healthy meals, we think you will find that cooking healthy is worth any sacrifice it may require. Healthy cooking will pay big dividends in increased health and fitness, as well as increased energy levels.

Fitness Equipment

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Fitness equipment can be purchased inexpensively online or through a local retailer. Ranging in size and level of difficulty, a person can determine which item is right for their level of physical activity, the amount of living space their home or apartment contains, and how much money they have allotted for a purchase of this magnitude.

Ranging from simple to complex, it is always best to consult a physician before setting out to do an increased level of physical activity. Once given the go ahead, health conscious individuals should read over the manual that comes with the fitness equipment before trying to use it. Any questions or concerns should be directed at the manufacturer. The company that makes the product knows the logistics of it and are better equipped to give advice and warnings than other people that you might encounter.

Fitness equipment gives people freedom to exercise in their own homes rather than having to travel to and pay for a gym membership. Hand and ankle weights can impact the results of a workout in a big, big way. Dramatic results usually follow several weeks of committed physical training.

Seen often at secondhand stores, fitness equipment has a undeniable shelf life. Ambitious individuals purchase the equipment at full price, use it a few times, and donate it to charity. Purchasing treadmills and stationary bikes used has both advantages and disadvantages. One definite plus is that the equipment is considerably less in cost. It may also be in excellent working order and still covered by its limited warranty. On the other hand, the equipment may be damaged or missing an expensive piece. It may have electrical problems as well. If not sure of the condition of the item, it is best to leave it alone even if it is the right price.

Fitness equipment encourages physical activity and makes it easy for any skill level of user to benefit from its use.

Live Music in New York

Monday, February 16th, 2009

If you’re a first time traveler to New York you may be astounded at how expensive the city is. Still, you can find bargains if you know where to look. Following are some suggestions for inexpensive ways to stay and play in New York.

If you want cheap flights to New York , one easy way is to fly a discount airline. JetBlue, which has newer planes and offers more amenities than other airlines, often runs specials on their popular routes. JetBlue flies into several airports in the New York area. Look at their fares in the middle of the night, because that’s when the deepest discounts are offered.

If you’re really looking to do New York on the cheap, consider staying in a rooming house or hostel to save money. You should be able to find a clean, safe room for $300-$500 a week, which is what a regular hotel will cost for a night. These rooming houses are set up like dormitories and do not have private bathrooms, but if you’re planning on spending most of your time seeing sights they can be a great deal.

If you want to take experience live music in New York, you can find cheap concert tickets on line as well. Their deals of the day give you a five percent discount on selected shows. Another option is to look on eBay or Stub Hub, where individuals post tickets that they’ve purchased and can’t use. There are also scalpers on both this sites, but if you’re patient and look through you can find great deals.

There’s an even better place to get tickets if you want a Broadway musical, though. A service called TKTS has a booth in Times Square where they sell same-day tickets to Broadway shows at half price. You won’t have a wide range of choice here; they’re selling whatever is left over on any given day. However, it’s a great way to experience the magic of Broadway at a really deep discount.

An Overview Of Cancer

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Cancer is a disease that affects cells of the body. Cells are extremely small units that build together and form all living things, which include human beings. In any given person’s body, you will find billions of cells.

Cancer occurs when unusual and abnormal cells grow and spread very quickly. Normal cells in the body divide, grow to a certain size and then stop. Over the course of time, cells will even die. Cancer cells do not follow this normal pattern of division and growth, however. They divide very quickly and just continue to grow. Normally, cancer cells do not die and they clump together in groups to form what are called tumors.

The cancer cells in a tumor can damage and destroy surrounding healthy body tissues. When these healthy tissues are damaged and destroyed, the person with the tumor can become very sick.

Cancer is capable to spreading to other parts of the body, as well. It is not unusual for part of a tumor to break off and travel to a distant area. Once that piece of the tumor comes to a stop in another area of the body, it will continue to grow and can create a new tumor. When cancer spreads like this, it is called metastasis.

When in the body, cancer can cause a person to feel very sick. Since early detection is a big factor in treatment, it is good to be aware of the signs of this disease. Some signs of cancer include:

A lump in the breast or testicles A change in the skin, a wart or a mole Persistent sore throat that doesn’t heal A significant change in bladder and bowel movements Coughing blood or a persistent cough that won’t stop Indigestion and trouble swallowing Unusual bleeding or vaginal discharge Chronic fatigue

Many of these symptoms can be from other illnesses which are not as serious as cancer. However, if you are ever faced with any of the symptoms above, it might be a good idea to see your family physician right away. Although the exact cause of cancer is still somewhat of a mystery, it is known that cancer is not contagious. You cannot catch cancer like you can the common cold. Unhealthy habits like smoking and excess drinking can increase your chances of getting cancer, but doctors aren’t sure why some people get this serious disease and others do not.
