Ski Holidays for the Carbon Friendly Traveler

Many keen skiers will shortly be dusting down their ski equipment and shooting off in search of the largest snow conditions.

And without doubt the impact of our carbon footprint will be virtually as far down the list of holiday to dos as a Christmas cracker after the Christmas vacation.

Only last year, a sluggish snowfall was in the tabloids and tourists were panic struck about the bits of snow disappearing nearly as soon as they put down.

Ski company Chalet1802, based at the base of Mont Blanc in Chamonix town in the Alps, is one of the first independent businesses to go carbon neutral and afford snowboarders an environmentally friendly selection when reserving their skiing trip.

Chalet1802 proprietor Wine stated: Last winter was a bit of a shock with the most warm winter in fifty yrs in France. Skiing resorts such as Montroc, Les Houches and Megeve lacked clients. It was temperate and the snow did not last so much of the early skiing season in the French Alps was limited. We selected to go carbon negative to assist in the preservation the ski resort.

Wine said: We are not assaying to dictate to guests but I believe it’s all important to grant them the alternative without increasing the price of the skiing holiday. If the client book with us and goes on holiday to our Chamonix chalet they may further off-set their carbon output and we soak up the added prices. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub – customers want luxury but not at the expense of the environment, so we viewed methods of lessening the impact of a skier driving over here for a snowboarding holiday.”

The firm have moreover partnered with group Climate Care, which tackles climate change by providing C02 reductions for individuals and firms.
