What’s Going on with the Free Name a Galaxy Web Site?
Those of us here at Windowpane Observatory are curious about what’s going on at the free name a galaxy web site, which cropped up on the web a few years ago as direct competition to the name a galaxy service our observatory offers (we were one of the original name a star services). Not only is no payment required when someone names a galaxy, the free name a galaxy web site owner mocks the donation we ask for for our name a galaxy service. Our competitor supplies, for free, a computer-generated certificate that must be published at one’s own expense. Our “fee” that he criticizes is a donation towards astronomical research that we conduct at our observatory. The free address a galaxy web site imparts nothing more than an automatic program that puts out the information that the galaxy registrant enters into a web page form. But, there’s a catch. The name a galaxy site demands that a person submit their name and email address, regardless of the fact that all that is ever sent to the registrant is a special code that is unneeded to the sign up process. Why is this? You could wonder that the free name a galaxy site is operated by a spammer who is collecting e-mail addresses that are later sold to a third party.
This free name a galaxy website operator states that he has no design to sell e-mail addresses. But what is his intent, then? Why would he steal our name a galaxy concept and turn around and form a no-charge galaxy naming internet site? If he’s not amassing email addresses for spammers, then maybe he’s just mean. Our customer service telephone number is proudly published on our website, but his is not. So it is impossible to call this guy and ask him what he is up to.
